“Not Only Patents.” The Second Event in the “Paper? Patent? People!” Series Explores the Value of Research in the Artificial Intelligence era.
27 May 2026

“Paper? Patent? People! Research That Creates Impact,” our four-part event series designed to guide researchers through a reflection on the opportunities for research valorization, continues with its second session.
The event, titled “Not Only Patents. The Value of Research in the AI era,” will take place on June 16 at 5:30 PM at the Casa Sociale di Povo and will address an increasingly relevant question: how is research’s ability to generate value evolving in the AI era?
Today, research is increasingly developed within complex ecosystems made up of shared datasets, open tools, collaborative models, and constantly evolving infrastructures. In this context, the value of research no longer lies solely in a single output, such as a paper or a patent, but also in the ability to make knowledge reusable, adoptable, interoperable, and capable of generating further research, applications, and long-term impact.
Starting from scenarios inspired by real-life situations, the event will explore how decisions related to data management, documentation, validation, and the use of AI tools can influence both the way research is produced and the value it creates. The discussion will bring together experts in technology transfer, AI ethics and governance, and research innovation, engaging the audience in the dilemmas and choices researchers face today.
