To date, the company has already developed ML algorithms that can prevent possible critical situations or plant malfunctions. With the state of the art in mind, the request is to integrate the capabilities of understanding unstructured data and generating Large Language Models (LLM) code into the development of the algorithms.

TheThe company’s proposed project is developed in the area of tire vulcanization and aims to build a system that can anticipate press malfunctions from the early stages to reduce waste and production inefficiencies, through a Predictive Failure Maintenance logic.

Dana Italia, based in Arco, it is the Italian branch of Dana Incorporated, a leader in the production of drivetrain systems for industrial and agricultural applications.

The Dana Italia Challenge requires predictive analysis of product performance based on experimental data collected over the years within the verification and validation department to obtain information on the goodness of the analytical models in use.

AI 22 - Logo Microtec

Microtec, founded in 1980, is a leading company in the woodworking industry. In particular, it provides automatic scanning and classification systems aimed at optimizing all phases of wood processing.

The challenge proposed by Microtec consists in the development of AI systems capable of predicting the strength of wooden boards starting from the tomography of the trunk of origin with the aim of implementing a selection of the trunks at the beginning of the process in order to reduce waste to end production

Consorzio Melinda counts today 4000 families of producer members, grouped into 16 cooperatives. Since 1989, the year of its establishment, Melinda has been committed to working and caring for the land and fruit plants in a natural way, to obtain high quality fruits, able to meet the expectations of consumers and customers and therefore to generate sustainable income for the Farmers.

The challenge presented by Melinda aims at the definition and implementation of an Artificial Intelligence system capable of making the apple cold storage process more efficient with the aim of optimizing the operating pressure of the compressors and that of the distribution temperature of the coolant.

Deltamaxborn in 1989 as a spin-off of the current FBK research center, it designs, develops and installs vision systems for product quality control in industry, in particular for the flat glass processing sector. The company creates custom solutions and offers high-tech products in the catalog, obtained thanks to constant investment in Research and Development.

The problem to investigate that Deltamax submits in this Initiative is the identification of aesthetic anomalies in the printing imprinted on flat glass plates through the processing of images resulting from non-perfect scanning acquisition.

Pulsar Industry, has offices in Spilamberto (Modena) and Rovereto (Trento). It offers complete industrial automation and factory software solutions for the food sector through the design and construction of automatic / robotic systems for the process, packaging, storage and shipping of final product.

Pulsar Industry presents a challenge aimed at producing an AI model that enables to select the best semi-finished product for feeding the slicing lines in order to obtain the least waste and increase productivity, thus improving the OEE index.

Since 2001, and thanks to a continuous process of research and renewal, Terranova has been a leader in the supply of software solutions for the Energy & Utilities market, supporting companies in the process of digitization, growth and consolidation of the business and of their position on the market.

Terranova brings a challenge to the development of an AI model capable of estimating the duration of a technical meter management activity for the gas service (replacement, installation, removal) with the aim of optimizing the agenda of the operator who performs the service.

Vetrosistem is a Trentino company based in Isera, a benchmark in flat glass processing. It designs and manufactures high energy performance insulating glass windows and markets glass furniture products.

Vetrosistem launches a challenge that aims to understand and predict the processing times of insulating glass units, starting from the statistical data provided by the machines that perform the process (from cutting to assembly). Such predictive system gives objective knowledge of the production process and enables strategic and operational choices to be made that increase productivity, efficiency and quality in lean manufacturing.



BM Group Spa is an industrial group aggregating more than 20 companies with an expertise in industrial automation, robotics, software and energy production. With Polytec, based in Borgo Chiese (TN), the Group provides integrated robotic systems, automation, cloud computing and IoT for the optimization and the management of production processes.

BM Group’s challenge is to monitor and analyze the operating data of the turbine of a hydroelectric plant they have produced, in order to develop a predictive maintenance model on the plant with the integration of weather data.


Casearia Monti Trentini Spa is run by the Finco family, with a dairy tradition starting in 1925. They produce their cheese with artisan recipes in Grigno (TN) and Enego (VI) using the most innovative technologies that are beneficial for the quality of its products and that support the production process.

The challenge of Casearia Monti Trentini consists of the analysis of the data collected by sensors for monitoring the operation of endothermic engines for the production of electricity and screw compressors for the production of cooling energy. The goal is to develop a predictive maintenance model for the plants, taking advantage of the integration of data coming from advanced sensors made available by the partner Asystom.


ETC Sustainable Solutions srl was founded in 2014 and is based in Trento, Bologna and Bari. With the “OSCAR” services, the company supports the optimization of wastewater purification processes through software and digital solutions, with a focus on environmental sustainability. In 2017 a unit regarding service and monitoring was created, and it deals with the assistance in the management of wastewater treatment plants through the analysis of operating data and process skills. From 2020, with the founding of the startup D3 srl, the company applies machine learning techniques to the development of decision support systems.

The ETC challenge envisages the creation of innovative solutions for a more efficient primary and waste water purification plants performance monitoring, starting with already existing data and dimensions and applying Data Science techniques.


ITG Tecnologie srl

is a startup founded in 2019, based in Polo Meccatronica (Rovereto). The company designs and produces permanent magnet and reluctance motors for lifts and hoists. It is the exclusive licensee and owner of 2 patented solutions for traction units and for predictive maintenance IoT systems.

ITG’s Challenge is about monitoring some critical parameters for the characterization of the operating performance of motors for elevator use, involving the integration of advanced sensors made available by the Asystom partner. The business goal is to develop and integrate predictive maintenance solutions into the company’s products.



was born in 2013 within Progetto Manifattura (Rovereto). Specialized in monitoring systems, NIRIS manages the safety and control systems of more than 1400 water treatment plants (wastewater and drinking) in the Garda area and in Trentino. The company’s business and research areas include smart farming, industrial automation, control of critical infrastructures and industrial IoT products.

The NIRIS challenge aims to detect correlations between available historical data and the data on the anthropic and meteorological impact of water treatment plants, in order to implement predictive maintenance processes capable of increasing their resilience


Novotic srl

is based in Rovereto (TN), and designs, develops and programs robotic systems for the automation of industrial manufacturing processes, combining data analysis, robotics, cloud, traceability and logistics.

The Novotic challenge aims to monitor the assembly process and analyze the extracted data in order to introduce targeted optimization and control interventions for reducing production and quality control costs.


SALF Laboratorio Farmacologico Spa,

based in Cenate Sotto (BG), has been studying the healing properties of aqueous solutions since 1921. It operates in the field of injectable preparations by developing and producing sterile solutions and medical devices for human and veterinary use.

The SALF challenge involves developing a model for the production planning optimization and the relative assignment of personnel to the production lines.


SET Distribuzione SpA,

part of the Dolomiti Energia Group, carries out electricity distribution activities for more than 330.00 users in over 160 municipalities in the provincial territory in order to guarantee the continuity and quality of the electricity service. The company monitors the status of the network in real time, measures and detects consumption and performs activities requested by customers on the meter with innovative remote control systems. It is also engaged in the construction of new networks to make energy widely accessible and to connect the new production facilities.

SET Distribuzione participates with a challenge that involves the analysis of historical data of energy withdrawals by end users and the study of their correlation with other social or territorial phenomena to identify possible trends for the future, and develop predictive models.


SUANFARMA Italia S.p.A.,

based in Rovereto (TN), was founded in the 60s from the initiative of a group of private entrepreneurs, establishing itself as an international reference point in the development, production and distribution of active pharmaceutical ingredients for human and animal health.

The SUANFARMA challenge aims to develop a predictive model of the yield of an active ingredient production process in order to optimize its efficiency.
